A very frequent problem with computers is data loss. Sometimes it's because of a hard drive failure, operating system crash, infection, unintentional user action, or simply of computer being stolen. You can protect yourself from problems caused by these unfortunate accidents by means of built into Hellcore Mailer automated backups facility.
A complete backup that allows restoring your mail and/or newsgroups data to state when it was created may be performed every specified amount of days, when closing or starting application. Backups are special files with ".hbk" extension and they are named using following scheme:
<username>-dd.mm.yyyy-hhmm.hbk
Where <username> is application's user name, dd - day with leading zero, mm - month, yyyy - four digits describing the year, hhmm - hour and minute in two-digit format. File name may be changed later if needed, this doesn't affect backup file contents.
Because backing up data may take a while, you can speed up entire process by disabling file compression (to do this, use "Don't compress user files" in "advanced" configuration category) - note that doing so will cause backup files to be significantly larger. You can also set a delay during which program waits for you, so you can postpone backup creation by one day. Backups are created in directory specified by user and options for setting interval (in days) between backups and whether backup should be performed on startup or exit (together with possibility to power-down computer after finishing) allows for greater flexibility and to fit your working style better. You can configure backups in "misc options" configuration category.
If you'll ever need to restore data from your backups, you can do so by using "Restore" button in user selection window.
