News groups

After configuring a news server, you may subscribe to groups hosted on that server. To do this, use the "News groups" window called with "Groups list" command from "Newsgroups" menu (note that if you use more than one news server, you may need to choose server from the folders tree prior to calling this command).

Upper part of this window contains "Quicksearch" field which is used to locate groups by their names or description, and combo box to the right of it allows for selection of search method.

• Phrase - the string entered is a substring (phrase).
• Wildcard - like above, but you may use wildcards. Use "*" to match any amount of characters, and "?" to match any single character (similar to MS-DOS wildcards).
• PCRE - the string entered is a PCRE regular expression
• Initials - the string entered are the groups initials (for example, typing nsr would find - among others - news.software.readers)

The state of "in description" checkbox decides whether search will be performed on group description or name. Right side of windows contains the following buttons:

• Download all - downloads complete news groups list from the server. Note that this may take a while, especially on a slow network connection.
• Download new - downloads only list of groups set up since last download.
• Stop - if group list download is in progress, use this button to stop it immediately.
• All - displays all groups.
• Subscribed - displays all subscribed groups.
• Manual add - allows for manual group adding - without downloading a whole list.
• Delete - removes selected groups from local group list.
• Import... - allows importing newsgroups list from external file, for example, from other news reader.
• Export... - allows exporting newsgroups list to external file.
• Sort - Sorts groups list.
• Close - Closes window and applies all changes.

To subscribe or unsubscribe group, check on uncheck box to the right of group name, or highlight group with arrow keys and press space to toggle subscription state.

After subscribing one or more groups, you may proceed to detailed group configuration. Select a group from folder tree and use "Group settings" command either from group context menu or "Newsgroups" menu.
