Filters are one of most useful tools of modern mail applications. Filters can automatically sort messages into appropriate folders, mark important messages, notify about specific incoming mail, delete unwanted messages and automatize some of work. Hellcore Mailer supports two filter lists per account/server in addition to global incoming/outgoing messages filter list. Every filter consists of at least one rule (and every rule may contain subrules), that is - conditions which must (or must not) be met for filter to be triggered. Depending on filter settings, rules are tied together with "and" joiner (all rules must be satisfied) or "or" joiner (any rule must be satisfied). Filters may be used solely for marking purposes, and execution of one filter does not need to stop filter processing. Although program does not have any limits on filters/filter rules amount, extreme amounts of filters may lead to confusion and slow filtering down. To filter messages by "From" field (blacklisted senders), use black lists instead of filters.
Filters, on the very beginning, may seem to be a complete black magic, but you only need to look around filter editor to understand how they really work. It's worth creating them, because they will save you a whole lot f time. In addition to that, you may use "Refilter" command from "Folders" menu to reapply all filter rules to messages in currently open folder, doing the sorting/filtering work for you.
